Buttons Button, button, whose got the button. Buttons come in different colors, shapes and sizes. They can dress up even the plainest blouse or blazer. Add really nice looking buttons and the outfit has a desired look. But what if a button is lost or broken? How does that special button get replaced? Sometimes the only place to get another one is from the manufacturer, if they are still available. Buttons need to be treated like gold if they are unusual and not easily replaced. When buttons are added to clothing, they fall into the category of a trim. What that means is that they need to be able to withstand the process that is printed on the care label. Some buttons are easily identifiable and some have been dyed or tinted to match the garment. Sometimes the care label will specify that the buttons should be removed before the garment is cleaned. In this section I will try to show you the buttons that we all need to be careful with.
Shell Button Shell buttons are available in different types. This type is common and easily found in fabric stores and are moderately expensive. As you can see, they come in different colors and chip or break.
